Wooden Australian Animal Magnets

Australian Animals are featured in so many books and stories and these magnets can be used as a tool for teaching as well as magnetic, imaginative and small world play!

• Whether using at home on the fridge or magnetic easels or in an educational context, these magnets provide a great opportunity for teaching and practicing the names and attributes of 24 different Australian Animals!
• Opportunity to explicitly teach the specific name of each Australian animal.  Some common (koala, kangaroo, crocodile), less common (frill neck lizard, Tasmanian devil, echidna), and unusual Australian animals (cassowary, thorny devil, numbat) are included, which means these magnets provide an opportunity for new vocabulary to be introduced and practiced.
• Also take the opportunity to increase vocabulary understanding and connections by talking about where the animal lives, what it likes to eat, what habitats it lives in, what is it known for (eg. emu doesn't fly), whether it comes out during the day or night, what the animal would feel like to touch, how many legs it has, etc.
• The wooden magnets could be used for other activities.  For example: visual memory games where a small number of magnets are presented and then removed from view, and the child must recall them; the magnets can also be used for categorising activities - find all the... 'animals with two legs', 'animals that live in water', 'animals that are furry', 'animals that spend most of their time in trees', etc.).
